Philip H. Howard received a Ph.D. in rural sociology in 2002 and an A.B. in anthropology in 1995, both from the University of MissouriColumbia. He received a master of environmental studies degree from The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington, in 1997. Dr. Howard is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems at the University of California Santa Cruz. His research interests include the sociology of food and agriculture, environmental sociology, social epidemiology (the study of societal influences on the distribution of health and disease), and community-based action research.
