Progress Evaluation

You should now complete Progress Evaluation 1. Please review the discussion of progress evaluations in the course introduction.

If you wish, you may print this page and refer to the texts and lesson commentary as you answer the questions. Remember that you will need to create a new document in Word 97 or later to submit to the Center. At the top of your lesson, please include your name, your CDIS ID number, mailing address, e-mail address, the course title, and the lesson number. You do not have to retype the questions when completing your progress evaluation. Simply type the number of the question and your response. Save the Word file, either to your computer or disk, as Lesson01.doc. (Note: Word will automatically add the suffix .doc.) Remember also to keep a copy of your progress evaluation.

A link for submitting your lesson and checking your instructor's feedback appears at the bottom of this page and on the course home page.

Reaction Paper (2 questions, 10 points each, 20 points total)

Respond to the following (3–4 pages total):

  1. Based on the readings from this lesson and your own work or school experiences, describe some of the most significant mental health problems or issues facing students in schools today. Include a discussion of (a) what you feel are the causes of these problems; (b) what, if any, services or resources are available in schools to address these problems; and (c) what are the consequences of these problems for the individual student, the staff member, and the school system. (1–2 pages, 10 points)
  2. Today, schools and teachers are expected to respond to the social and emotional needs of students. Based on what you learned from the readings, what role do you believe teachers should play in addressing children's mental health issues? Be sure to discuss the life skills that foster emotional well-being introduced in Chapter 2 of your textbook by Page and Page (2003). (1–2 pages, 10 points)
