Final Exam Information

After you complete the Lesson 12 Progress Evaluation and receive your score, you should apply to take the final examination. You may request an exam over the Web, but the examination itself may not be taken online.

Exam Format

The final exam is instructor-evaluated. It is worth a total of 350 points. The exam is comprehensive, although it emphasizes the vocabulary and grammar presented in the second half of the course.

You may not use your textbook, study guide, notes, or other outside resources during the exam. Exam questions will be similar in style, but not identical, to the progress evaluations.

Time Limit

You will have 2 hours to complete the exam.

Minimum Score to Pass the Course

You must score at least 390 points (60 percent) on the midterm and final exams combined in order to pass this course.

Items to Bring to the Exam Site

  • You must present a valid photo identification in order to take the exam.
  • You must bring your CDIS ID number to record on the exam materials.
  • You must bring a pen or a pencil to complete the exam.
  • You must bring a portable personal CD player with headphones to complete the exam.

What to Expect

The final exam is composed of the following sections:

  • Sound Discrimination: 10 sentences, 50 points
  • Verbs: Schéma and 3 sentences, 50 points
  • Journal Writing: 10 sentences, 50 points
  • Grammar: 30 fill-in-the-blank items, 150 points
  • Culture: 10 true-or-false questions, 50 points

Preparing for the Exam

  • Make sure you have completed all assignments and understand everything in each lesson.
  • Review the lesson objectives; make sure you can accomplish them.
  • Make sure you can explain key terms and concepts.
  • Complete all review exercises, study questions, and activities; check your answers.
  • Review comments on the lesson reports and look up answers to any questions you missed.
  • Complete the Final Exam Review.

Note: Please remember to complete the course evaluation form that will be given to you with your final exam.
