Progress evaluations are open-book assignments that test your knowledge and understanding of the course material. Each progress evaluation is worth 60 points. The points you earn on progress evaluations count toward your final course grade.
Note: You must submit all assigned work in sequence (Lesson 1, then Lesson 2, etc.), and you cannot submit more than three (3) assignments in a 7-day period.
Before attempting to answer the questions in the progress evaluations, be certain you have completed your assignments for the appropriate lesson. You may use the commentaries and your notes to complete the progress evaluations, but the online lesson submission form will not allow you to move to a different page without submitting the lesson. It is therefore in your best interest to answer the progress evaluation questions first by using a printed copy of the progress evaluation preview; then, use the commentaries to check your answers before submitting them on the actual lesson submission page.
The progress evaluations should be filled out on the Web by clicking on Submit a Lesson.
Reminder: You will not be able to switch from the actual progress evaluation lesson submission page to the corresponding lesson(s) without submitting the input from the lesson submission page, so use a printed copy of the progress evaluation preview to mark your answers and check them against the commentaries and/or textbook. If you do not understand a question or are unsure of the correct response, you should mark the answer you consider the most likely to be correct. Because the same number of points is subtracted for a wrong answer as for no answer, it is in your best interest to make an educated guess. When you have finished entering your answers on the lesson submission page, simply click on "Submit" to submit your answers to the Center for Distance and Independent Study for scoring.

The instructor-evaluated progress evaluations for Lessons 2, 4, 6, 9, and 12 require written responses. Most items require that you write the complete sentence. Lessons 7 and 11 require spoken responses (see the tutorial at right). Read ALL instructions carefully! Students should submit Word files using Microsoft Word (97 or more recent version) or another office suite that saves in Word format (.doc), such as the open-source OpenOffice. When you are done, click on the Submit a Lesson link at the bottom of the progress evaluation page and follow the instructions for uploading your file.

After each progress evaluation has been scored, you will receive a lesson report. The lesson report gives your score on the lesson and provides feedback and comments on your work. After you receive your score, you should then study the lesson commentary and make certain that you understand the author's analysis of important concepts in the Assignments. Both the feedback on your progress evaluations and the lesson commentary will help you prepare for the exams.
