Progress Evaluations

Progress evaluations are open-book assignments that test your knowledge and understanding of the course material.

There are nine progress evaluations in this course; they appear after each lesson, beginning with Lesson 2. The progress evaluations following lessons 2, 4, 7, and 9 are computer-evaluated; each consists of 25 multiple-choice questions worth 1 point each for a total of 25 points. The progress evaluations following lessons 3, 5, 6, 8, and 10 are instructor-evaluated; each includes a writing assignment and is worth a total of 20 to 35 points. The points you earn on progress evaluations count toward your final course grade. Progress evaluations must be submitted in sequence, and you cannot submit more than three progress evaluations in a seven-day period.

After each progress evaluation has been scored, you will receive a lesson report. The lesson report gives you your score on the lesson and provides individualized feedback and comments on your work—either from your instructor for instructor-evaluated lessons or from prewritten feedback for computer-evaluated lessons. After you receive your score, you should then study the lesson commentary and make certain that you understand how your feedback highlights important concepts in the lesson material.

If the feedback for computer-evaluated lessons still does not help you understand troublesome questions, contact the Center, describing your specific difficulty. Be sure to identify the course, the lesson number, and the question number.

Note: For progress evaluations that are instructor-evaluated and require written responses, students should submit Word files (.doc) using Microsoft Word (versions 97–2003/XP) or another office suite that saves in the .doc format, such as the open-source OpenOffice. More detailed instructions for completing the progress evaluations can be found in each lesson.

For computer-evaluated lessons you will not be able to switch from the actual progress evaluation lesson submission page to the corresponding lesson(s) without submitting the input from the lesson submission page, so use a printed copy of the progress evaluation preview to mark your answers.
