Description: This course examines the engagement with racial difference in popular films. It traces a history of filmic connections between eastern and western models of masculinity by examining recent Hollywood action films alongside more subtle contemplations of Asian-American identities, as well as western movies that were produced as direct imitations of Japanese forerunners.
