Description: This course surveys U.S. history from the end of the Civil War to the present. It examines important themes, people, problems, and events that have shaped and continue to influence the development of the United States as a nation and as a people. Special emphasis is placed on political events, economic trends, cultural movements, and changes in social status by class, race, and gender.
