Course Information
Social Studies: History
Title: AP European History (Fall Semester)
Credit: 0.5 units
Lessons: 10 lessons, 10 submitted
Exams: 2 exams
Grading: Computer and Faculty Evaluated
Prerequisites: None
Description: Students will study European History beginning around 1450. The course introduces students to cultural, economic, political, and social developments that played a fundamental role in shaping the modern world in which they live. Without this knowledge, we would lack the context for understanding the development of contemporary institutions, the role of conflict and continuity in present-day society and politics, and the evolution of current forms of artistic expression and intellectual discourse. Another course goal is for students to understand some of the principal themes in modern European history, to analyze historical evidence, and to express historical understanding in writing.

Note: College Board authorized this course.

Gifted: This course is academically challenging. Any student who has an interest in the subject and has met the prerequisites (if any), may enroll.

Special Instructions: Enrollment begins the first business day of May; course starts August 31, 2009. Class size is limited. Students must have an email account to enroll and agree to participate in online discussions. The course content will be viewable two weeks prior to the start date. Enrollment in the spring semester of this course, which starts in January, begins the first business day of October.

Note: AP courses follow a specific calendar, and the normal 9-month completion policy does not apply to these courses. Therefore, students who have not completed all work by the due date for the course final (listed on the course calendar) will automatically be withdrawn from the course.
