This Awareness course is the first level of first responder certification. A first responder must be properly trained and mentally prepared when called upon to respond to a hazardous material incident. This course will cover the necessary basics as well as the use of the Emergency Response Guidebook. The course meets the federal regulations as set by OSHA 1910.120, NFPA 472 and Hazardous Materials Emergency Preparedness (HMEP).

This course is worth 8 POST credits or 8 EMS non-core CEUs.

Students will have 60 days to complete this course from the time of enrollment.

1. Click on "Enroll".
2. Select "Non Credit" from the drop down menu, and then click "Continue".
3. Select "Hazardous Materials Incident Response: Awareness" from the drop down menu, and then click "Continue".
4. Enter enrollment information (If you are taking this course for POST credit, please be prepared to provide your department name and Fire Department ID number!).
5. When you submit your enrollment information and finalize your enrollment, you will be given a CDIS ID number and Password. It is important that you make a record of these numbers because you will need them each time you access the course.
